However, his downfall came not from external forces, but from the very virus he sought to use as a tool; he was infected with FOXDIE via airborne transmission during a fistfight with Solid Snake, not through a syringe injection. This exposure triggered FOXDIE, which was designed to target specific individuals including Liquid Snake based on his genetic profile—he was targeted because he shared Big Boss's genes, but the virus was tailored to kill specific targets like Liquid, Decoy Octopus, and later others.
